NEW YORK

When Hugo Chavez referred to the President of the United States as the devil during an address at the U.N., the press carried the story for days.

What they don't seem to think is newsworthy, is the way he's running Venezuela, using Cuba and Castro as his model.

MEANWHILE

As the networks cover the firing of eight Assistant U.S. Attorneys at the top of every news program, they don't mention the mass firing of every Assistant U.S. Attorney by the Clinton Administration that was orchestrated behind the scene by Webster Hubbel.

"Mr. Hubbel is out on bond, awaiting trial," she said during a news conference. "I can't imagine why anyone would think that he could have done anything wrong. After all, he was one of Ms. Clinton's law partners."

She was matter-of-fact when questioned on the firings...

BACK TO THE PRESENT

Joe Kennedy is running television commercials advertising cheap heating oil to needy Americans from their "friend" Hugo Chavez in Venezuela.

Shiny Citgo tankers are shown delivering fuel oil to the United States while Americans tell the camera that the only one looking out after them is a Communist dictator in Venezuela. "Why can't the American government be more like him?"

The idea isn't a new one though. During the Great Depression another thug helped the needy in order to deflect the attention of the American public.

His name was Alphonse Capone. He was better dressed than Hugo.
